Facebook has won $711 million in damages against Sanford Wallace, a spammer, the InformationWeek website recently reported.
The court documents according to the InformationWeek report indicate that Wallace and an associate spammed Facebook users with phishing messages. Those who responded by clicking on the links and submitted login information to phishing sites allowed Wallace and his associate to then sapm the phishing victim’s friends, in turn generating more potential phishing victims.
Facebook sought damages of more than $7 billion dollars, reported the InformationWeek, but the presiding judge, Judge Jeremy Fogel who expressed skepticism in his ruling that such claim was proportionate to the offences of Wallace instead awarded Facebook $710,737,650.
The InformationWeek also reported that last November, Facebook won $873 million in damages from spammer Adam Guerbuez and his company, Atlantis Blue Capital. This amount is so far the largest award under the 2003 Can-Spam Act.

With the kind of money Facebook is awarded for violations of the rights of its members, do the members share in the financial awards to Facebook? Per your report, Facebook had been awarded more than $1.5 billion already. Thanks.
