An increase in the volume of spam relating to the Bredolab Trojan was highlighted in the the October 2009 report by MessageLabs Intelligence.
Bredolab is a Trojan that arrives in the form of a zip attachment to an email and is designed to give the sender complete control of the target computer. The most frequently occurring emails included subjects relating to parcel delivery services or money wire transfers.
MessageLas estimated that 3.6 billion Bredolab malware emails were in circulation each day during October, with spam relating to the Bredolab Trojan accounting for 3.5 percent of all spam and 35.2 percent of all email malware intercepted in the month.
The more recent interceptions of Bredolan Trojans were identified as emails purporting to originate from a popular social networking site. The emails claim that the recipients’ password have been changed for security reasons and the new password could be found in the zip attachment.
